Bessie Carolyn Porter

Bessie Carolyn Waugh Porter, 71, of Flatwoods, passed away peacefully Monday, June 19, 2017. Bessie was born June 10, 1946 in Rush, KY, a daughter of the late John and Lilly Henson Waugh. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother John Waugh and her sisters Beulah Waugh and Bertha Stephenson. Bessie was a longtime Boyd County resident and graduate of Boyd County High School. She was an avid UK fan especially UK Basketball. She made her career in Nursing and worked at Kings Daughters Medical Center and as a home health aide with Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. She also worked as a nursing assistant at Wurtland Nursing and Rehab. Bessie was a member of the Straight Creek Nazarene Church. Survivors include her sons Shawn Porter and wife Angie of Hubert, NC, Jason Scott Porter of Huntington, WV, brother Jack (Connie) Waugh of Richmond, KY, sisters Doris Wellman of La Grange, KY, Georgene (Paul) Wormsley of Lorraine, OH, grandchildren whom she adored Devan Porter, Priden Porter, Mason Porter, Ashland Porter and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel by Pastor Randy Biggs. Burial will be in the Coalton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.
