Betty Triplett Wellman

November 8, 1934 ~ March 23, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Betty Triplett Wellman, age 82, went to her heavenly home on March 23, 2017 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her belief in God sustained her and gave her peace during this struggle.
Betty was born to the late Charles and Carrie Triplett, a farmer and a homemaker respectively, in Hitchins, KY on November 8, 1934. She was part of a large and loving family, the youngest of nine children. She grew up on the family farm in Hitchens, KY and graduated from Hitchens High School. She attended business school in Ashland, KY where she met her future husband, Billy Wellman, while “buzzing the Bluegrass” an iconic restaurant. They were married February 11, 1956. They spent 60 wonderful years together and remained devoted to each other until Billy’s death, November 1, 2016.
Betty was a loving wife and mother. She was a true helpmate to Billy. She encouraged him in his career and managed the home as he was often away. He would tell you she enabled much of his success. She also managed to work full time for several years outside the home at Drs. Howard and Cowherd where she made many lifelong friendships. She was very active in her church wherever they were living; South Ashland UMC, St. Paul UMC, and Lawrenceburg UMC, volunteering and serving in several positions. She loved spending time with family and friends; playing cards, making baskets, collecting quilts, gardening and traveling. She especially enjoyed family reunions and the trips she and Billy took with brothers and sisters during their later years.
Betty is survived by a son, John Wellman of Ashland, KY, and a daughter, Marabeth Kleczinski (Terry) of Lexington, KY. Three grandchildren Kaelyn Wellman, Tucker Wellman and Abbey Kleczinski. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Wellman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy G. Wellman, a daughter, Deborah Lynn Wellman; her brothers and sisters; Dennis Triplett, Eloise Crawford, Charles Triplett Jr., W.W. Triplett, Burnetta Tolar, Helen Calhoun, Elijah Triplett, Muriel Farrissey; and her parents.
Services will be held at the Steen Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland, KY. The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017. Friends and family may visit from 01:00 to 04:00 PM on Sunday, March 26, 2017. Burial will follow at the Ashland Cemetery. The family gratefully declines flowers but covet your prayers and condolences. Gifts may be given in Betty’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
