Dr. David Burton Hanbury, 38, of Danville, VA passed away on March 16, 2024. He was born on February 14, 1986 in Ashland, KY to John (Jack) and Sally G. Hanbury.
He earned his BS from the University of Southern Mississippi, PhD Experimental Psychology, University of Southern Mississippi, 4 year Post Doctoral Study at Wake Forest Medical Center and MBA at Averett University. He was an Associate Professor of Psychology at Averett University, Psychology Department Co-Chair and Division Chair for Physical & Psychological Sciences.
David was beloved by all his students and was voted favorite faculty member of 2022 by the student body. He was also honored by the faculty, being voted Outstanding Faculty Member for 2023.
David was very devoted to his family and spent a lot of time with them. He was dearly loved by his niece and nephew. He enjoyed playing golf, cooking and his beloved dogs Lily and Cricket.
He was the Grandson of the late Burton Blanton Hanbury, the late Jane Hutcheson Hanbury, the late Paul W. Grumbles and Charlotta M. Grumbles
David is survived by his parents, John (Jack) I. Hanbury, Sally G. Hanbury; brothers , John I. Hanbury, Jr., and Paul B. Hanbury (Sarah), his niece Samantha M. Hanbury, and nephew Paul B. Hanbury, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at STEEN FUNERAL HOME-13th STREET CHAPEL at 12:00 Noon with Reverend Jeff Bramel officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time at 12:00 PM.
