George Arthur Curry, 93 years young, passed on to join in God's glory Saturday evening, Feb. 4. He was born and raised in the Ashland area. After graduating from Asbury College, he worked in the Lord's service, first as a community center director in southern Texas and then as a teacher for the Navajo Methodist Mission School. He received his master's degree in English Literature from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Then returned to New Mexico to teach at Newcomb High School on the Navajo Reservation. After retiring, in 2004, he returned to his home in Ashland. He was a scholar, naturalist, adventurer, warm and faithful friend, loving father and most of all devoted to his faith in our Lord. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Leroy; and his mother, Lola Eloise; and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat; son Arthur; daughter Mary along with her husband, Alix; and George's grandchildren, Gracie, Lincoln, Hudson, Liberty, Grayson and Lucas as they all celebrate his life on earth and in eternity, as they wait in joyful expectation of future reunion in God's kingdom. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Ashland with the Rev. John Street and the Rev. Eugene Barbour officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Steen Funeral Homes in Ashland are in charge of arrangements.
