Rex Elliott Flowers

Rex Elliott Flowers 86, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota Florida.

Rex was born February 11, 1931 in Ramah, Colorado, a son of the late Joseph William and Agnes Franklin Flowers. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Shirley Jean Rose Flowers, sister Audrey Flowers Heinricy, brothers Roy Lee Flowers, Lyle Flowers and Lynn Flowers

Mr. Flowers retired as Postmaster in Frenchburg, KY after many years of service with the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed bowling and was on a local bowling league in Sarasota. He proudly served his country during the Korean War with the United States Navy.

Rex loved his family. He took great pleasure in recounting stories from his youth and enjoyed writing memoirs of his life. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his son Lynn Elliott Flowers of Ashland, KY, daughters Linda Flowers Blevins and husband Lowell of Ashland, KY, Tracey Flowers Morgan and husband Dan of Sarasota, FL, Lisa Flowers Byrd and husband Donald Ray of Southport, NC, grandchildren James Pennington, Jennifer Pennington, William Roberts, Evan Morgan, Kasey Morgan, Justin Taylor, Laura Taylor, Katie Taylor, Matthew Byrd, great grandchildren Frank “Trey” Kiser III, Quentin Hoffman, Maddox Hoffman, Aubree Hoffman, Aivere Hoffman, Aniston Upchurch, sisters Eleanor Flowers Norden, Violet Flowers Merritt, Christen Flowers Petre and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Rose Hill Burial Park Masoleum Chapel by Bill Harris. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30 Saturday at the Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Rex Flowers memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, (844) 739-0849.
