Robert Fulton Gillum Jr., 81, of Catlettsburg, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017, in Harbor Healthcare of Ironton.
He was born April 26, 1936, in Boyd County, Kentucky, a son of the late Robert Fulton Gillum Sr. and Faye Edith Wright Gillum. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Edward Gillum in 1989.
Robert was a former barber and president and C.E.O. of Princeland Swim Club. He owned and operated his own fireplace business for several years and retired from the Boyd County Sheriff's office as a court security officer.
He served honorably in the United States Army, was a Kentucky colonel and volunteered with FIVCO for 36 years. He served as FIVCO president from 1995-1996.
Survivors include his loving wife, Laverne Maynard Gillum of Catlettsburg; son Robert Scott (Rhonda) Gillum of Ashland; daughters, Debra (Daniel) Picklesimer of Florida, and Rhonda Sturgill Bailey of Indiana; sisters, Betty Fulks of Charlotte, NC, and Peggy Cefkin of Florida; grandchildren, Brandon Irby, Justin Picklesimer, Matthew Picklesimer, Andrew Picklesimer, David Gillum, Tiffany Gillum, Claira Sturgill and Kayla Bailey; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with Chaplain Randy Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
