Robert Milton Rayburn, 91, of Ashland, died Friday, June 2, 2017, in Community Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.
He was born in Greenup County, the son of the late James and Rose Worthington Rayburn.
He was a lifelong resident of Ashland. In his early years, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and attended flight school. After the war, he graduated from Texas Western School of Mines.
When he returned to Ashland, he met his wife, Joyce and they were married in 1950. He began working as a foreman at Armco and worked with the blast furnace and steam power. He retired in 1982.
Mr. Rayburn had a passion for woodwork, reading and giving back to the community. He was an avid member of Tri-State Woodworkers and a local carving club. His workshop was his second home.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Powers Rayburn; his sister, Lucy Wood; his son, James Rayburn and wife Valerie; three grandchildren, Abraham, Lucas (Merlyne) and Amelia; five great-grandchildren, Brooke, Triston, Ayden, Maya and Malia.
A private service will be Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
He will be greatly by his neighbors and family.
