Thomas Lee (Tom ) Wuerdeman, 91, of Ashland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Community Hospice Care Center .
He was born August 24, 1926, in Ashland, Kentucky, son of the late Lee Adam and Jeannette Sebald Wuerdeman.
He was graduated from Ashland Senior High School and served two years in the Navy Air Corps in World War II. He graduated from the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
Tom was employed by Armco Steel Corp. (now AK Steel Co.) in the Metal Products Division from which he retired as senior sales engineer in 1986. From 1986 to 1990 he was sales representative for Contech Construction Products.
He was a member of the Ashland Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Transportation Committee. He served also on the Uni-gov Committee whose purpose was to combine city and county government. During the Cuban missile crisis he was a member of the Civil Defense Organization. He served many years on the Advisory Council of the Fivco Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.
A third generation member of Calvary Episcopal Church, he held the positions of Junior Warden, Senior Warden, superintendent of Sunday School and served on many committees.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline (Penny) Weight Wuerdeman of Ashland: his son, Thomas Adam Wuerdeman and wife Brenda of Florida; his daughter, Anne Wuerdeman Pulley and husband Marc of Florida; granddaughter, Emily Wuerdeman Rupe and husband Charles of Florida ; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Lorna Rupe; and a sister, Gretchen Wuerdeman Reaves (Charles) of Memphis, TN.
