Virginia Goldy Carter, 96, of Ashland, peacefully passed away Wednesday evening, August 9, 2017 at her residence with her loving family at her side. Virginia was born October 25, 1920 in Salt Lick, KY, a daughter of the late George J. and Nancy Lewis Goldy. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her loving husband David O. Carter, and her brother Billy Lee Goldy.

Virginia was a faithful member of the South Ashland United Methodist Church. She was an American Red Cross Volunteer for 75 years primarily with the Bloodmobile program. In 2013, she was recognized by the Northeast Kentucky Chapter of the American Red Cross and presented with the Clara Barton Lifetime Commitment Award. She was an avid fan of UK Basketball and a Kentucky Colonel.

One of Virginia’s fondest memories was the years spent at the baseball diamonds in Central Park watching her son’s ballgames and all the other teams playing sports.

Survivors include sons Kenneth Lee Carter and wife Renanne of Lexington, KY, David Ray “Bo” Carter and wife Jeannie of Vestavia Hills, AL, daughter Virginia Sue “Susie” Carter of Ashland, KY, her adoring grandchildren David Scott (Frances) Carter of Birmingham, AL, Clayton Hayes (Julianna) Carter of Madison, AL, Kristen Carter (Jason) Rowland of Hoover, AL, Justin Wesley (Maggie) Knowles of Lafayette, CO, great-grandchildren Jason Michael Rowland, Joshua Carter Rowland, Lorelai Avery Carter, David Jude Carter and Avery Grace Carter, niece Brenda Jane Goldy of Lexington and a host of extended family and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Steen Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel by Pastor Keith Katterheinrich. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, from 11-1 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Scott Carter, Todd Clinger, Chris Mokas, Tim Huff, Clay Carter and Bob Lynch. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Mullins, Charlie Jackson, Bill Lynch, Amos Gearheart, Lee Selogic, David Webb, Jason Rowland and Justin Knowles.
