Wilma Jean Robinson

Wilma Jean (Stewart) Robinson, 82, of Ashland, peacefully passed away Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Community Hospice Care Center with her loving family at her side. Wilma was born July 17, 1935 in Ligon, (Floyd County, KY, a daughter of the late William Clyde Stewart and Janey Gayheart Stewart Piotrowski. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years Herschel Robinson in 2010.

She was raised by her grandmother Stewart in Denton (Carter County) KY and by her Aunt Sylvia Allen of Rowdy, KY. She graduated from Ashland Senior High School in 1953 and attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Huntington, WV. She received her R.N. from Kings Daughters School of Nursing in 1969, her B.S.N degree from Marshall in 1983 and her M.S.N. degree from Bellarmine in Louisville, KY in 1990. She was employed with Kings Daughters Medical Center from 1970 to 1976 at the School of Nursing as an Instructor and continued with KDMC for 231/2 years in the department of education/in-service until her retirement in September of 1992. From October 1992 to December 1999 she also worked part-time for Dr. George C. Borst.

She Begun the first diabetes classes at KDMC and organized a support group for diabetes and served as president of the organization. She also established the first bereavement support group in Ashland.

She spent many hours in community service associated with diabetes and was awarded a life time service award for Diabetes in June of 1997. She was also very active with the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Robinson attended the Summit Nazarene Church where she served as past young people’s director, missionary president and adult Sunday school teacher and also attended at the Meade Station Church of God in Ashland.

Wilma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord, her family and loved to fish. She will be deeply missed by her family all who knew her.

Survivors include her children Cheryl Ann Floyd (Glen) Lunsford, Herschel Dale Robinson, Phillip B. (Michelle) Robinson, Timothy D. (Tonya) Robinson, grandchildren Audrey Nicole (Curran) Scarlata, Sarah Beth Floyd (David) Miller, Justin Edward Robinson, Dixie Lynn Robinson, Jesse Lee Robinson, Ashley Renee Robinson, great-grandchildren, Nicholas Curran Scarlata, Brandon Charles Scarlata, Danielle Scarlata, Lacy Dawn Robinson, Trent Ryder Robinson, Kaleb Robinson, Kelsey Robinson, two step grandchildren, Dawn Miller, Sara Miller and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00am Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Pastor Rob Jordan. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
