Aster Carl Hayes

Aster Carl Hayes, 90, of Ashland, KY passed away at his residence on February 5, 2021. He was born on July 27, 1930 in Fleming Neon, KY to the late William and Lula Mae Spencer Hayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruby Sowards Hayes in 2018, siblings Gene Hayes, Oscar Hayes, Irene Stephens, Mildred Wright and twins Chuck and Irene Hayes.

He was a customer service manager for International Harvester and served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Some of his passions were ballroom dancing with his beloved Ruby, boating, working in his yard, listening to music and making his trips to Florida where he loved walking on the beach. His time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren was most precious to him.

He is survived by a son Carl Alan Hayes and wife Marty of Memphis, TN; a daughter Pamela Perkey and husband Sam of Ashland, KY; grandchildren Stacey Cassity, Matthew Earls, and Lindsay Spencer; great grandchildren Samantha Stafford, Tyler Stewart, Savanna Cassity, Christian Spencer, Hailey Cassity and Chloe Spencer and lifelong friends, Rheta and Jim Loy.

Private funeral services will be held at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel with Pastor Matthew Earls officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast.
