Catlettsburg lost one of its proudest daughters on March 7, 2020, with the passing of Barbara Lynn Friley Stiles, age 75, at the Boyd County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Barb was born at home in Catlettsburg Kentucky, on March 21, 1944. She was the youngest of 5 children. As the only girl, she was greatly loved and doted upon. Barb graduated from Thomas R. Brown High School in Catlettsburg in 1962. After graduation, Barb worked for Kentucky Electric Steel for 30+ years.
Barb was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Catlettsburg. She loved her hometown community and served as a member of the Catlettsburg Community Leadership Council, Friends of the Catlettsburg Cemetery Committee, and Catlettsburg Kiwanis.
Barb is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, James ( Jim) Fredrick Stiles and her parents, Robert and Nola Gibson Friley, and her 4 brothers; Paul (Mandi) Friley of Ashland, Bobby (Juanita) Friley of Catlettsburg, Charles “Babe” (Susan, still residing in Ashland) Friley of Catlettsburg, Donald (Ruth) Friley of Ashland. She will be greatly missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, and longtime friends and neighbors.
Visitation for Barb will be at the Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel on Wednesday March 11 from 11-1.
There will be a graveside service at the Catlettsburg Cemetery immediately following visitation, led by her great-nephew Jason Hannon.
