Betty Irene Cogan

Betty Irene Childers Cogan, 99, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center.
She was born December 16, 1920, in Ashland, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John W. Childers and Bessie Conley Childers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Cogan in 1999; two brothers, John W. Childers and Frank Richard Childers; and four sisters, Martha Hill, Mary Ellen Walsh, Margaret Childers and Peggy Heaberlin.
Betty was a longtime member of Beech Street Christian Church and was a loving homemaker. She had formerly served as Leadership Trainer with the Girl Scouts. She was a former member of the Eastern Star where she served as Deputy Grand Worthy Matron and was a member of the Ashland White Shrine. Betty loved crafts and was a talented seamstress.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Ann Cogan (Ralph) Young of Springfield, VA, and Billie Cogan of Ashland; two grandchildren, Serena Taylor and Robert Young; four great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; numerous nieces and nephews and two special friends, Tom and Nora Felty. She was Granny Betty to Lance, Jennifer, Kyle and Zach McComis.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2020, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Ministers Joey Kennedy and Rob O’Lynn officiating. Entombment will follow in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time Monday.
Covid19 guidelines will be observed.
