Beulah Burton Holbrook, 87, of Lexington, formerly of Flatwoods, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, at her residence under hospice care.
Beulah was born Sept. 5, 1934, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Harve Burton and the late Ruby Reeves Burton Baldridge. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Jack Holbrook, in 2016; an infant daughter, Cynthia; her sister, Phyllis Parsons; her brother, Harold Burton; and several other family members.
Surviving are two sons, Blake (Pam) Holbrook of Ashland and Vincent (Susan) Holbrook of Kernersville, N.C.; a daughter, Ronda (Floyd) Taylor of Nicholasville; four grandsons, Ian Holbrook, OB-GYN (Catherine) of Richmond; Evan Holbrook, Pharm. D. (Selina, Ph.D.) of Lexington; Jack Holbrook, Esq., of Hickory, N.C.; and William Holbrook of Kernersville; four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Graham and Haddie of Richmond and Faelynn of Lexington (with brother Michael expected in March); several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends .
As a young woman, Beulah worked at the atomic plant in Portsmouth, Ohio. Other employment was at Sears, the Russell schools' central office, Hill's Department Store and as manager of Castlewood Apartments in Russell. She was a founding and longtime former member of 13th Street Baptist Church in Ashland.
Beulah had a generous spirit and was always ready to help others. She spent countless hours sitting with family members in hospitals and nursing facilities. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and shopping. Beulah was a survivor of both breast and kidney cancer.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bibles from Him, 308 Etna St., Russell, KY 41169.
