Billy Joe VanHoose

Billy Joe VanHoose, 92, of Catlettsburg, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Huntington Health & Rehab in Huntington, WV. B.J. was born January 20, 1925 in Ashland, KY, a son of the late Freelan and Lucille Kirk VanHoose. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane Imes Vanhoose, his brother Robert VanHoose and a sister Donna Ruth VanHoose. B.J. was a lifelong resident of Boyd County. He attended Unity Baptist Church in Ashland and Grassland Community Church on Bear Creek in Catlettsburg. He was a 1943 graduate of Boyd County High School and served his country during World War II with the US Navy. B.J. retired as a superintendent with the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company in Burnaugh after 41 years of service. Survivors include his son Stephen VanHoose and wife Janet of Catlettsburg, his daughter Suzanne VanHoose Campbell and husband Kerry of Russell, brothers Ray VanHoose and wife Mary of Ashland, Jay VanHoose and wife Sue of Catlettsburg, Jim VanHoose and wife Carla of Ashland, four grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel. Pastor Phillip N. Nunley will officiate. Burial will be in the Fannin Cemetery on Bear Creek with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #93. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
