Brian D. Hicks

Brian Dee Hicks, 63, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Kings Daughters Medical Center following a brief illness. Brian was born September 16, 1958 in Ashland, Kentucky. He is the son of the late Owen Dee and Fannie Mae Gullett Hicks.
Brian was a master mechanic and held numerous certificates in mechanics of all kinds. Over the years he was employed with several automotive garages in the Ashland Area. He worked with heavy equipment contractors Davis & Burton in Cannonsburg, also serving in the pit crew for their dirt stock car racing. He worked for a time with his lifelong friend Paul Williams at L&E Electric in Ashland. He also worked for Addington Inc., going as far as Belize to work on Larry Addington’s race boat engines. Most recently, Brian worked out of the Operating Engineers Local 181, in Maysville, St. Croix and locally at Marathon’s Catlettsburg Refinery and AK Steel.
Brian loved playing and celebrating sports, with an especially illustrious high school baseball career. He was a lover of music, an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer as well. Brian was a devoted family man who found himself surrounded by friends who were comforted by his goofy, cheerful and loving demeanor. He was loved and respected by many who viewed him as a mentor, father figure and coach – in sports, life, and even things he knew nothing personally about. He never met a stranger or an enemy and always pushed others to be their best. He will forever be in the hearts of his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Linda Holbrook Hicks of Ashland, sons Jason Hicks and wife Blaire and Jared Hicks, his daughter Jessica Evans, his grandchildren Wiley & Lincoln Evans, a sister Linda Kaye Greene, a brother David Lee Hicks and wife Sue, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be prior to services on Thursday beginning at 11:00am at the funeral home.
