Carl Edward Thompson, 73, of Ashland, returned to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 7, 2021.
He was born January 3, 1948, in South Shore, Kentucky, a son of the late Herbert Andrew and Judy Barker Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sturgill and three brothers, Ron Thompson, Bill Thompson and Bob Thompson.
He was a 1966 graduate of Paul Blazer High School. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Rank 1 certification from Morehead State University.
Carl was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and on numerous committees.
He retired following a 34 year career in education with Fairview Independent School System. During his tenure he served as a teacher, coach, counselor and superintendent. He was awarded K.E.D.C. Superintendent of the Year and was involved with many civic and professional organizations, including the Gideons and Ramey Estep Home.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 45 years, Marlene Eskew Thompson of Ashland; brothers, Herbert Thompson, David (Brenda) Thompson and Mike (Linda) Thompson all of Ashland; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and a special buddy, Tommy.
Visitation will be held from Noon. Until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.

Words of comfort will be provided by Pastor Rob Lockhart and Pastor Brad Calloway. Following the service, Carl will be laid to rest in Ashland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Kyle Thompson, Greg Thompson, Philip Thompson, David Thompson, Britton Blair, Alvin Bailey and two close friends, Mark Maynard and Vessie Hughes.
