Charlie Boyd Jr.
August 21, 1950 ~ November 14, 2023 (age 73) 73 Years Old
On the morning of Tuesday, November 14, 2023, while surrounded by his family Charlie Boyd, Jr., 73, of Flatwoods, transitioned beautifully to Heaven, leaving his family with the ultimate gift.
Charlie was born in Ashland, Kentucky on August 21, 1950. He was a 1968 graduate of Boyd County High School where he was a member of the track team. For over 20 years he held the Two-Mile State Track Record. Charlie served honorably in the Kentucky National Guard and retired in 1990 from Armco Steel. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus. As a longtime member of the Alpha 1 Foundation Support Group, he was an inspiration to many. In Charlie’s free time he loved making “Jerry’s Jerky” and was an avid UK Fan. Prior to his illness he loved boating, water skiing, fishing and was a talented pianist.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edmond Boyd, Sr.; two nephews, Bill Riley and Jason Matthew Preece; a brother-in-law, Jerry Heaberlin; and a sister-in-law, Mary Hampton.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 52 years, Libby Serey Boyd; his mother, Betty Jo Adams Boyd; daughter, Shana Boyd Hackworth (Stuart); son, Shane Boyd (Chasity); sisters, Janda Carole Musick (Gary), and Cindie Jo Naughgle (David); grandchildren, Eliza, Ellary, Emme Charles Hackworth and Maverick Boyd; sisters and brothers in law, Cathy (Paul) Gottbrath, Terry (Kevin) Slusher, Frankie (Mark) Groves, Caroline (Terry) Conley, Kelly Serey, George (Ginger) Serey, Benny (Cindy) Serey and Rick Hampton; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father D. Andrew Canon Garner, KHS presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with Shane Boyd, Stuart Hackworth, Maverick Boyd, Dan Baker, Brian Shope, Raymond Stapleton and Paul "Butch" Daniels serving as pallbearers.
