Charlie Bryant, 88, of Catlettsburg, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019, at King’s Daughters Medical Center.
Charlie was born January 26, 1931, in Pike County, Kentucky, the son of the late Jasper Bryant and Bertha Rogers Bryant Flanery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Porter Bryant, and a sister, Wonda Lee Bryant. Charlie is survived by his wife Phyllis Waller-Bryant, his daughter Barbara Bryant
Sledd of Lexington, his stepdaughter Sherita Akers (Brian) and stepgrandson Spencer Akers of Louisa. Charlie is also survived by three sisters and one brother: Juanita Lay and Estelene Hall of Farmington Hills, MI, Donna Sue Brinkley (Louis) of Hampton, VA,
Doug Flanery (Cheryl) of Westmoreland, TN, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Charlie was a member of Second Free Will Baptist Church, Ashland. He served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict.
After the war, Charlie worked thirty-six years for C & O Railroad. In addition, he was a volunteer with AARP Tax-Aide for thirty-two years in Ashland and Louisa. Charlie was a founding member of The Walking Group that included Howard Wallace, Bill Evans, and Brian Morrison.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Steen Funeral Home, 13th Street Chapel. Rev. Bill Evans, Rev. James Lindsey, and Rev. Vinny VanHoose will speak.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. .
Pallbearers are Spencer Akers, Nate Hall, James Rogers, Warren Rogers, Ron, Thompson, and Howard Wallace. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Morrison, Ron Coffee and George Branham. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace, Ohio with military honors by the Ironton VFW Post 8850.
