Clarice "Peggy" McLemore Oliver

March 3, 1923 ~ October 12, 2018 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Tribute

Clarice McLemore Oliver went to her heavenly home on Friday, October 12, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at home in Ashland, Kentucky. The daughter of Millie Fugitt McLemore and the Reverend James McLemore, she was born in Hazard Kentucky on March 3, 1923. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in her passing by her beloved husband, James Henry Oliver; a son, James Henry Oliver, Jr. and daughters Jacqueline Oliver Claxon (Thomas) and Jennifer Sue Oliver; sister Bessie McLemore Eversole and brother James Hager McLemore.

Surviving are her children, Kenneth Jay Oliver, Carolyn Mae Oliver Graeves (Raymond) and Bobby Eugene Oliver (Johnda) all of Ashland; grandchildren, John Philip Claxon, Julie Sue Claxon and Thomas Harvie Claxon, Jr., all of Raceland, and James Russell Oliver of Ashland and great grandchildren, Jenna Katherine Claxon and Elijah James Ferguson, both of Raceland, also surviving is her sister Geraldine Fugitt Jones of Dayton, OH.

A lifelong Baptist, Clarice, or “Peggy” as she was known by those who loved her, was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a gracious homemaker and hostess. Friends and family were always made welcome in her home,

Peggy met her husband-to-be in Dayton, Ohio at a USO dance. When James was called to serve his country in the Pacific theater she took a train to Texas to marry him and see him off to war. Upon his return, they settled in his hometown of Ashland and raised their family of six children.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Chaplain Jimm Smedley officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY, 41101.
