Dennie Alford Crisp, Sr., 89, of Ashland, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Community Hospice.
He was born August 12, 1932, in Greenup County, Kentucky, to the late Thomas and Lucinda Moore Crisp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Ann Wilson Crisp; son, Dennie Alford “Bud” Crisp, Jr., step-son, David Greene and 11 siblings.
Dennie was a member of Cannonsburg Church of Christ and was the owner of Crisp Service Center for 61 years. He was a talented musician. He opened shows for Mel Tillis, Loretta Lynn, Little Jimmy Dickens and many others. He performed at Coalton Jubilee, Sunshine Valley, Wright Shopping Center, Rockdale Jubilee and traveled overseas to perform for the U.S.O. He once beat Patsy Cline in a talent contest.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Nellie Sparks Crisp; sons, Ronald (Teresa) Crisp and Rodney Crisp; daughters, Jody (Joe) Whitlock and Amber (Luke) Martin; step-daughter, Tammi Greene Walters; grandchildren, Shasta Stephens, Sarah McPeek, Samantha McDavid, Seth Whitlock, Brandon Crisp, Brittany Leader, Ryan Crisp, Chelsea Seagraves and Jessica Hart; step-grandsons, Joshua David Greene and Nicholas Greene; 19 great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor the life of Dennie Crisp will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 21, 2021, at STEEN FUNERAL HOME 13TH STREET CHAPEL with Sam Meek officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
