Tribute

Doris Jovan Delvizis of Ashland, Kentucky, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother fell asleep in the Lord on the 6th day of July 2022 in Franklin, Tennessee.

Born in Pogradec Albania on October 8, 1931, she is the daughter of the late Michael and Eleni Jovan, immigrants from Albania. She met her husband Stasi while living in Rochester, NY in 1954. They were married a year later on September 25. Doris and Stasi celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary together in 2020. They moved to Ashland, Kentucky in 1971 where they raised their five sons. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was a faithful member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Huntington, West Virginia, serving the parish in many capacities. She was a friendly, caring and loving member of the church family, always offering a hug and making all feel welcomed and loved.

Doris is survived by four of her five sons, Michael (Rebecca) Delvizis of Brentwood, TN; Thomas (Teresa) Delvizis of Lexington, KY; the Reverend Peter (Victoria) Delvizis of Westfield, NJ; and James (Maria) Delvizis of San Ramon, CA. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Stasi (Anastasios) Michael Delvizis and son, John Alexander Delvizis. She was the proud yiayia of four grandchildren, Christopher (Haley) Delvizis of Brentwood, TN; Kara (Andrew) Miller of Nashville, TN; Michael and Alexander Delvizis of San Ramon, CA; and also the loving big-yiayia of five great-grandchildren Ella, Ava, and Michael Everett Delvizis of Nashville, TN; Luke and Lucia Miller of Nashville, TN. Additionally, she is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Doris’s devotion to her family, friends, and faith never wavered and was ever-present. These were the foundation and building blocks of her life. She enjoyed wholeheartedly the love of her family and was always ready to share a hug and give a kiss. She radiated when family or friends came to visit. She was “the life of the party” with an infectious personality and the ability to graciously welcome all into her home. All who watched her dance with her husband Stasi were always amazed how they both seemed to float through the air, effortlessly in rhythm with the music together with each other. This, to her family, reflected their life together - a true love story and example of devoted love for all to observe.
