Earl (Cork) Withrow, Jr. 80, of Flatwoods, made his way to his Heavenly home on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 at UK Medical Center in the presence of his loving family after an ongoing illness.
Cork was born on January 30, 1939 in Ashland, KY, a son of the late Earl Withrow and Roberta Medlock. In addition to his parents, Cork was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Groves Withrow (2013) of 52 years, his daughter Missi Withrow (2007), his siblings Chester Lee, Larry Eugene (Shirley), Robert Leo, Edgar Ray (Peggy) and Betty Gay Nunn.
Cork was a retired Iron Worker Local Union 769 of 34 years, co-owner of Mimi’s Flowers of Flatwoods and an all-around positive, kind-hearted handyman. He loved his John Deere lawn mower, flashlights, his truck, the Cincinnati Reds, UK basketball, eating at Cracker Barrel and Homemade food provided by family and friends. He adored his family and always looked forward to being together.
Those left to cherish his love and memory include his daughter, Mimi Rayburn (James) of Versailles, KY, son Corky Withrow (Amanda Hanshaw, fiance’) of Georgetown, KY, granddaughters Candace Rayburn of Euless, TX, Carlyn Alvarez (David), of Price, UT, grandsons Ian Michael Hanshaw, Corky Jacob Kash Withrow and Joseph Knox Withrow, great grandchildren David James Iralupe Alvarez and Renee Missi Kay Alvarez and sister Judith Ann Kies (Ed) of Topeka, KS, Linda Groves, sister-in-law (John), Pat Groves sister-in-law (Paul) and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends that adored him.
The family deeply appreciates the care and tremendous support of family members Jimmy, Vicki, Bryan and John Groves, Robin Barber, Regina Maynard, Jenny Lee and Scudder, Mick and Sharon Salmons (neighbors) and Lucy and Shane Riley (neighbors), and the medical staff at UK Medical Center.
Visitation will be at Steen Funeral Home, 13th St. Chapel, Ashland, KY on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 11-1pm. Funeral service beginning at 1pm with Rev. Shane Cox and Bishop James Rayburn, officiating. Burial will be at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens following.
