Edwin Albert Krajecki, 74, of Ashland, formerly of Benton Harbor, Michigan, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Edwin was born September 14, 1946 in Benton Harbor, MI, a son of the late Edwin and Mary Ann Craft Krajecki. In addition to his parents, Edwin was also preceded in death by one brother and 3 sisters.
Edwin was raised in Benton Harbor and attended Saint John’s Catholic High School. He joined the military while in high school and served 17 years with the United States Army serving in Vietnam with numerous campaign ribbons, medals and decorations awarded. Edwin returned to Benton Harbor and became a chef. He was head chef for the Holiday Inn and Big Al’s Burgers & More, which was a joint venture he co-owned, both in Benton Harbor. He also operated Little Paw-Paws Bar & Grill in Coloma, MI.
In his spare time, Edwin played in a bowling league, was a member of the DAV and the VFW in Benton Harbor, loved fishing the Great Lakes Region and was a sports fanatic playing slow-pitch softball, always cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Melissa Luckey Krajecki of Ashland, son Edwin W. Krajecki of Ashland, daughter Samantha Krajecki of Ashland, brother Theodore “Ted” Krajecki and wife Renee of Berrien Springs, MI, sisters Kathleen Martin and husband Mike of Benton Harbor, MI, Francis Bittle and husband Emery of Huber Springs, AK, his grandchildren Kirstyn Douglas, Joshua “JJ” Douglas, Jr. Arnold Douglas and a host of extended family and friends.
A private celebration to honor Edwin’s life will be held Friday, Dec. 4, 2020 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 93 and members of the US Army.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Community Hospice for the exceptional care Edwin received while in their care.
COVID-19 guidelines still remain in effect, masks and social distancing are required.
