Elmer Russell Bowling, 91, of Rush, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Kings Daughters Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Bowling was born November 3, 1930 in Catlettsburg, KY, one of thirteen children born to the late Clyde Eugene and Midge Blankenship Bowling. In addition to his parents, five brothers, four sisters and a daughter-in-law Diana Bowling preceded Mr. Bowling in death.
Mr. Bowling was a member of the Ross Chapel and retired from Armco Steel Company as a steel pourer in Basic Oxygen with over 31 years of service. He also was a farmer and enjoyed cattle trading and working on his farm. Elmer was also the founder of Bowling Trucking & Lime Spreading.
He taught his sons the value of hard work and honesty, a trait that his father had instilled in him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 70 years Polly Dillon Bowling of Rush, his sons Russell Ray Bowling, David Lee Bowling, Rick Bowling and wife Katana and Rodney Dean Bowling all of Rush, grandchildren Nick Bowling, Amy (Jason) Whitaker, Brian (Jennifer) Bowling, Rebecca (Brian) Davidson, Angel (Michael) Horn Joseph (Makayla) Bowling, great grandchildren Harley, Chance, Kayleen, Dillon, Hailey Jo, Brylee, Dixie, Jesse, Colt and Rusty. Additional survivors include his brother Darrell Bowling and wife Mary of Catlettsburg, sisters Garnett Stapleton and husband Bill of Ashland, Lucy Jean Atkins of Ashland and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Graveside services will be held 3:00pm Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Bowling Cemetery on Bolts Fork. Grandson-in-law Michael Horn will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
