Ethel Juanita “Peggy” Kirk, 96, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Rush, KY, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Spring Valley Health & Rehab in Springfield. Peggy was born February 19, 1923 in Ashland, one of fourteen children born to the late John and Sophie Lemaster. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by husbands Lytle Thomas Smith and Hobert W. Kirk and several brothers and sisters.
Peggy was a faithful member of the Chadwicks Creek Baptist Church in Catlettsburg and the Garner Missionary Baptist Church where she was a major contributor of the campground ministry at Fallsburg. She retired after many years of service as a cafeteria worker with the Boyd County School and Ashland Independent School Systems.
Being a part of the “greatest generation”, Peggy worked at a factory in Michigan during World War II doing her part for the war effort. This is where she met and married her late husband Lytle and started a family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son L.T. Smith & wife Beth of Rush, KY, daughter Doris Dugan & husband Gerald of Springfield, MO, sisters, Jeannie Donta of Catlettsburg, Doris Stewart of Summit, Imogene VanHoose of Winchester, OH, her adoring grandchildren Angela (Dewayne) Gilbert, Trey (Melissa) Smith, John M. (MaryAnn) Smith, Gary Dwight (Kara) Amstutz, Shane (Nichole) Amstutz, great grandchildren Megan (Seth) Saunders, Kayleigh Amstutz, Kamryn Amstutz, Dawson Amstutz, Drew Amstutz, Keaton Amstutz, Carson Amstutz, great-great grandchildren Sophia Saunders and baby Saunders due in September. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends.
Funeral services will be held 12:00pm Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Pastor Gary Arrington and Bob Quillen. Entombment will follow in the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will begin at 10:00am Saturday morning at the funeral home prior to the service.
