On October 28, 2020, Evelyn H. Crawford, while surrounded by family and friends went to tend an eternal garden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie A. Crawford and son in law, Graham Johns.
Born January 5, 1930 in Ashland, Kentucky, she was the daughter of late Herman Russell and Lena Berry Haggard. She was the oldest daughter and the last surviving sibling of her brothers and sisters; Paul D. Haggard, Herbert Haggard, K.B. Haggard, Russell Haggard, John Ray Haggard, Edith Bramblette and Ellinore Garner.
She started working for General Telephone at a young age and was employed by the Ashland Independent School System as an aide for Head Start as well as Title 1.
A lover of good books and sweet tea, her flowers were the envy of the neighborhood. She was an expert seamstress, devoted to her church and church family for over eighty years at South Ashland United Methodist Church, and her faith was unswerving. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was a dedicated volunteer at the Hospice Care Center and believed greatly in its mission and purpose.
She is survived by her children, Jana Crawford Maggard of Xenia, Ohio; Lisa Crawford Johns of Winchester, Kentucky and Brent Crawford (Karen) of Ashland. She is the grandmother of Julianna Woodall (Terrance), Jonathan Maggard (Clarissa), Meredith Hall (Clarke), Ashley Crawford (Bryan Hartledge) and Zachary Crawford. She is the great grandmother to Lyla Woodall; Braydon Terry, Jonathan Avett Maggard; and Margaret Hall. Additional survivors include her nephew, the Reverend Father D. Andrew Garner and Niece, Joy Garner Jobe (Shane), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
In following COVID 19 regulations, physical distancing and use of facial coverings will be required.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel.
A private family funeral will be held on Sunday, with Father D. Andrew Canon Garner, KHS and Chaplain Jimm Smedley officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Evelyn’s memory may be made to South Ashland United Methodist Church or Community Hospice.
