Garnett Louise Sexton

June 2, 1919 ~ February 9, 2018 (age 98) 98 Years Old
She fought the good fight. She finished the race. She kept the faith. Garnett L Sexton peaceably passed from this world to enter her heavenly home Friday morning, Feb. 9, 2018, at Trinity Station Retirement Community. 
Garnett was born on June 2, 1919 to the late Lonnie and Bertha Baldridge Stewart. She was married to the love of her life, the late Arnold E. Doc Sexton for 69 years. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Earl Sexton, a sister, Ann Burnem, brothers Burgess Stewart, and Jack Stewart, and great grandson, John Dyer. 

 At an early age she felt the call of God on her life to preach the Gospel, and went on to become an ordained minister and commissioned evangelist with the Church of the Nazarene. They traveled from Michigan to Florida spreading the Gospel. Doc and Garnett also had a radio ministry, "The Shepherd's Call" that lasted 62 years. The National Religious Broadcasters awarded them The Milestone Award in Washington DC She loved her trips to the Holy Land, also led a group tour there. 

After retirement Garnett continued to minister to people through her service as a member of KDMC Auxiliary for many years and through having services in retirement communities and nursing homes. 

She exemplified a true servant heart, and was loved by all who knew her. 

She will be sadly missed by her sons, Arnold (Judy) Sexton of Flatwoods, Dale (Karyn) Sexton, and Mike (Becky) Sexton both from Ashland. Her sister Kay (Danny) Wheeler) and sister-in-law, Gay Stewart. 
Her grandchildren, Jennifer (Richard) Clay, Jeff (Bea) Sexton, Jody Howard, Kim (Fred) Harris, Stacey (Mike) Spears, Joe (Amy) Sexton, Kathy Elkins, Karen (Bob) Dodge, Sheri (Shelby) Kennedy, Laura Beth Martin, Megan Daniel, Tara (Joe) Lambert, Michelle (Dale) Butler, Melissa (Brad) Kochis, Michael (Bianca) Sexton, and Matthew (Hannah) Sexton. 32 great-grandchildren and 4 great-greats.

Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Pastor Frank Hulett and Brad Kochis. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8pm and from 11:00am till 1:00pm Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garnett’s memory to the First Church of the Nazarene, 1400 Center Street, Catlettsburg, KY. 41129
