George Hurley Fliehman, 83, of Ashland, passed away Monday, June 24, 2019 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. George was born August 17, 1935 in Ironton, Ohio, a son of the late Hurley and Thelma Morgan Fliehman. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a grandson Dave Fliehman.
Mr. Fliehman was a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Ashland. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy and retired with 39 years of service at AK Steel’s Semet-Solvay Plant as an Instrumentation Specialist.
He was a Kentucky Colonel and loved Bluegrass Music. He played Mandolin with several area bands over the years including the James River Boys.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Essie Skaggs Fliehman of Ashland, son Joe Fliehman and wife Jill of Catlettsburg, daughters Jane Fliehman Meade and husband Bob of Ashland, Jill Fliehman of Ashland, brother Bill Fliehman and wife Glenda of Ironton, sisters Alyce Davidson of Ironton, Judy Profitt of Ironton, grandchildren Dan (Kristin) Fliehman, Andrew (Marie) Fliehman, Allison Fliehman, Brad (Shelly) Sargent, Brooke (Lance) Seasor, Samantha (Casey) Hughes, nine great grandchildren and a host of extended family, good friends and pickin’-n- fishin’ buddies.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Pastor Paul Badgett. Burial will follow in the Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 11am till service time at 2:00 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Dan Fliehman, Andrew Fliehman, Lance Seasor, Casey Hughes, Mike McDowell and Dana Williams.
