Gertalene Bowling McDowell, 97, of Summit passed away Friday, November 1, 2019, at her residence.
She was born September 5, 1922, in Lawrence County, KY, a daughter of the late Willie Columbus and Zora Elizabeth Ward Bowling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin McDowell; five brothers, Ishmael Ray Bowling, Jeddie Bowling, Jesse Bowling, Hollie Bowling, and Paul Bowling; and four sisters, Nola Mae Bowling, Beulah Kazee, Edna Sexton and Perlina Clarkston Fry.
Gertalene was a member of Straight Creek Church of the Nazarene. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed being surrounded by her loving family and dear friends.
Those left to cherish her memory includes sons, Fred L. (Nancy) McDowell, Charles Randall (Pam) McDowell and Terry Doug (Vickie) McDowell; daughter, Rita (Mark) Carhart; sister, Gladys Brown; grandchildren, Tina (Tom) Bryan, Chris (Amy) McDowell, Leslie McDowell, Brad McDowell, Matthew (Leah) McDowell, Jerry (Missi) Goodwin, Deanna (Eric) Lambert, Cindy (Mike) Gaskin and Dustin (Edwina) Carhart; 19 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2019 at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with Pastor Gary Salyers and Pastor Randy Biggs officiating. Burial will follow in Bowling Cemetery on Music Branch.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
