Ira Franklin Smith, 94, of Ashland, Kentucky passed away Friday, July 29, 2022 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland, Kentucky after losing a 37 day battle with Pneumonia and Congestive Heart Failure. He wasn’t in pain and passed on peacefully.
Ira was born in Leslie, Arkansas and grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri. After returning from Korea after serving in the US Army, he enrolled at and graduated from Centre College, in Danville, Kentucky where he met his future wife of 70 years. During his 35 years as a CPA, he was very active in the community and was currently a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Ira retired in 1987 and spent his 35 years of retirement worshiping God and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife Norma Haynes Smith originally from Louisville, Kentucky, his son Timothy Smith, daughter-in-law Terrie, grandson Matt & granddaughter Kayla living in the Powder Springs, Georgia area. His other grandson, Glenn Hobbs, daughter-in-law Christina and four great grandchildren are living in Georgetown, Kentucky. Ira is also survived by many Nieces, Nephews and friends throughout the United States.
A memorial service for Ira will be held at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 1930 Winchester Avenue, Ashland, Kentucky 41101, on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Stephen T. Smythers, Senior Minister at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at the church.
