Ivan Donald “Beans” Stewart, 70, of Ashland, passed away at his residence on Monday, November 2, 2020. Mr. Stewart was born December 5, 1949 in Ashland, a son of the late Ivan J. and Annabelle Porter Stewart.
Beans was employed at AK Steel and Steel of West Virginia with 45 years of service in the steel industry. During his employment he was involved in many activities, he managed and played for the Steelworkers state championship softball team. He also helped organize the Q plus program, a grassroots Labor & Management Program. He set on the Steering Committee with members of the top management and union leaders a successful program that gave workers a voice in the company. Later he accepted a position in the Quality Department until the downsizing of AK. He then became a successful salary employee of Steel of West Virginia until his retirement.
Mr. Stewart was a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church. He loved to play golf and was an avid UK sports fan. He also served as past president of the former Aquabears swim club. Ivan and his brother Philip were also instrumental in the organization and development of Ashland’s Poage Landing Days for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Nancy Booth Stewart of Ashland, his son Sean Stewart and wife Tiffany of Ashland, a brother Philip (Lora) Stewart of Ashland, sisters Anna Jean (Jerry) Brown of Ashland, Lisa (Ed) Bures of Florida, Rhonda Stewart Howard of Ashland, his grandsons Braiden Stewart and Bentley Stewart, and a host of extended family and good friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Thursday, November 5, 2020 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel by Rev. Jim Nichols. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be prior to services from 11:00 am till service time at 1:00.
