Jack Hillard, 83, of Ashland, KY, passed away on February 17, 2019 at the Hospice Care Center. He was born on April 4, 1935 in Ashland to the late John Wells and Flo Hillard Green. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Ronnie (Judy) Wells, Phillip Wells, Richard (Evelyn) Wells, Don Kimbler, and Junie Miller; Sister, Janet Wells (Clarence) Cordial and mother and father-in-law, Robert M. and Lennie Williams.

Jack attended Ashland Public Schools and graduated from Greenbrier Military Academy in 1954. An accomplished young athlete, his Ashland High School track relay team won a state championship with a record time that remained for decades. He served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years. In 1960 Jack returned to Ashland where he began his career. He worked for AK Steel for over 36 years and retired in 1994. He was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and was passionate about his friends, his Sunday School Class, AK Steel co-workers, his Annual Armco Fish-Fry, playing golf, all UK sports and his family. He will long be remembered as a great husband, father and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife Judy Williams Hillard of Ashland, a son Jack Eric Hillard (Elizabeth) of Lexington, KY; two daughters Jennifer Hillard Farris of Franklin, TN and Cheree Ross Davis (John) of Catlettsburg, KY; three grandchildren William Farris and Jackson Farris of Franklin, TN and Conner Davis of Catlettsburg, KY; a brother Steve (Shari) Wells of Ashland; sisters Gail Wells Kimbler of Michigan and Carol Wells Miller of Louisville, KY; and sisters-in-law Lenore Williams and Patsy (Ray) Davis of Catlettsburg, KY.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel at 1:00 PM and will be officiated by Pastor Matt Shamblin. Burial will follow in Bowling Cemetery with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post #93. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00.

Pallbearers will be John Davis, Johnny Davis, Jon Robert Davis, Phillip Skeens, and Lawrence Cains. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Farris, Jackson Farris and Conner Davis.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101 or to Rose Hill Christian School, 1001 Winslow Road, Ashland, Ky. 41102.
