James Alvin Clayton

James Alvin Clayton, 61, of Ashland, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018, in King's Daughters Medical Center following a sudden illness.

James attended New Hope Baptist Church. He served honorably in the United States Army. He retired from A.E.P. as a Lineman and from A.C.T.C. in the Maintenance Department.

He was born November 21, 1956, in Salem, New Jersey a son of the late William James Clayton and Willie Mae Fitzman Clayton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Derrick, Jeffrey and Jonathan Clayton; and a sister, Carolyn Jean Robinson.

Survivors include his wife, Ava Bell Clayton of Ashland; son, Phillip T. Clayton of Ashland; daughter, Paulette Clayton of Ashland; grandson, Titus Kennedy Clayton of Ashland; brothers, Walter Reed Clayton of Las Angeles, CA, Robert Lee Clayton of Washington, DC, and William Michael Clayton of Los Angeles, CA; Nieces and Nephews, Traci Clayton, Ahmad Clayton, Jelani Clayton, Chris Clayton, Tamara Clayton, Latasha Clayton, Jazmine Clayton, William Clayton, Ricky Clayton, Kimberly Clayton, Michael Clayton and Gabrielle Clayton; great nieces and nephews, Cole Clayton, Yana Clayton, Jeffrey Clayton, Emilie Clayton, Rheyanah Clayton, Kyleigh Clayton, Jalen Clayton and Jelani Clayton.

Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday, November 16, 2018, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Rev. Stanley McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, North East.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until Noon Friday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donation be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
