James Curtis “Jim” Iams, 68, of Olive Hill, peacefully passed from this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, August 26, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born April 18, 1950 in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late Glenn Curtis and Velma Jo Herring Iams.
Jim was a 1968 graduate of Canton McKinley High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University. He had an extensive career with the United States Department of Justice through the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He retired as supervisor of Education from the Federal Correctional Institution in Beckley, West Virginia. In addition to FCI Beckley he also had worked at several other correctional institutions including FCI Ashland, KY, FCI Jesup, GA and FCI Schuylkill, PA. Jim also worked at the Ramey-Estep Home in Rush, KY.
Jim attended the Bagby Memorial United Methodist Church in Grayson, KY.
Survivors include his loving wife Dianna Blevins Iams of Olive Hill, sons Jason Curtis Iams and wife Carla of Los Angeles, CA, Gary Todd Lowe and wife Kristie of Muncie, IN, brothers Stanley W. Iams of Kansas City, MO, John D. Iams and wife Cindy of Millersburg, OH, his adoring grandsons T.J. Lowe, Shawn Lowe and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:30pm Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Rev. Musial Pearson. Burial will follow in the Blevins Memorial Gardens in Greenup County, KY.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
