Jimmy Qualls

James Robert “Jimmy” Qualls, Jr., 70, of Argillite, KY, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Jimmy was born July 17, 1950 in Kenova, West Virginia, one of six children born to the late James Robert, Sr., and Betty Jean Smeltzer Qualls.
Jimmy graduated from Paul Blazer High School and attended Ashland Community College. He worked in the Huntington Division of CSX as a pipefitter and welder in the Locomotive Shop and he also worked in the Raceland Car Shops. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and working on his farm. He was the jokester of the family and always had a good story to tell. Everyone always had to ask Penny “is that true” as his stories went on and on. He will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 47 years Penny McDowell Qualls of Argillite, brothers Gregory Alan Qualls of Ashland, Michael Curtis Qualls (Charlene) of Ashland, Timothy Brian Qualls (Linda) of Pedro, sisters Carmen Marie “Sis” Hankins (Anthony) of Ashland and Kimberly Jean Jones (Billie) of Kitts Hill, OH. Additional survivors include his close friend, Gary Love, who helped attend the farm and many nieces, nephews, co-workers and good friends, all of whom mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by Paul Badgett.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00am till service time at the funeral home.
