Janet Dolores Thomas was born on October 27, 1934 to the union of Dallas and Opal Thomas. She was the third of eleven siblings. She was born and raised in Ashland, KY where she attended Booker T. Washington School. On April 1, 1955, she married the love of her life William “Red” Thomas. Together they would have four children; Marchika “Marty” Foley, William “June June” Thomas, Gary Thomas and Gloria “Boola” Bonner.

Janet was employed by Parsons department store and was a bus driver for the Ashland School district. Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved cooking and was known for her infamous Monkey Bread. Janet enjoyed watching sports especially football. She was always willing to share with others and would help anyone at all cost. Janet had a no-nonsense attitude in all she did. She loved spending time with her family and friends and absolutely adored her grandchildren.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist church for many years. In her latter years she attended Christ Temple Church under Suffragan Bishop Elzy Thomas her brother in law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas, Sr.; sisters, Joe Frances Collins, Eleanor Sanders and Edith Blake; brothers, Robert Thomas, Dallas Thomas, and son Gary Thomas.

She leaves a life of memories and strength to her children Marchika Foley and William Thomas of Ashland KY and Gloria (Don) Bonner of Dayton, OH; siblings, Mildred Guy Middletown, OH, Orville (Anna) Thomas and Barbara Bryant of Dayton, OH, Loretta (Alfonzo) Farrow of Toledo, OH and Juan (Sharon) Thomas of Ashland, KY; brother in law Bill Blake; grandchildren, Landon (Olanda) Thomas, Audra Thomas and Hayden Thomas of Ashland KY, Marcus (Katie)Thomas, Matthew (Kerri) Thomas of FL, John (Dana) Bonner of San Antonio, TX and Taylor Bonner of Dayton OH; great-grandchildren, Majesty, Isabella, Mackenzie, Marcus Jr, Bryce and Braden; special Friends, Connie Fannin and Zita Eley; sister in law, Margie Thomas and many, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Homegoing services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2024, at STEEN FUNERAL HOME CENTRAL AVENUE CHAPEL with District Elder J.D. Crockrel officiating. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from Noon until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
