Jeanette “Jean” S. Copley, 93, of Ashland, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020, at her residence.
She was born March 30, 1926, in Memphis, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Edward Stratton Bridges and Janet Thomas Bridges. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Allen Copley in 2016; a sister, Patricia Hampton in 2018; and a daughter in law, Phyllis Copley in 2002.
Jean was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Ashland. During WWII, she worked at Temkin Roller Bearing Company in Columbus, Ohio. Following the war, she returned to Ashland, where she married her husband and spent her remaining years as a devoted homemaker.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Edward A. Copley of Catlettsburg; a daughter, Barbara J. Copley of Ashland; five grandchildren, John Dutton of Ashland, Stuart (Shannon) Dutton of Ashland, Heather Dutton of Flatwoods, Robert (Arielle) Brown of Flatwoods and Edward Copley II of Catlettsburg; and seven great-grandchildren, Rett (Cassidy), L.T., Morgan, Jesse, Corey, Emily, and Mason; two great-great grandchildren, Juniper and Henry.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020 at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with words of comfort provided by Rev. Dwayne Young and Paul Thomas. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from Noon until 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
