John McDowell

John Virgil McDowell 83, of Ashland, returned to his heavenly home on Friday, June 25, 2021.
He was born May 19, 1938, in Rush, Kentucky, a son of the late John Mitchell and Margie Albright McDowell. In addition to his parents, 5 brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
John was a longtime member of Meade Station Church of God and a devout Christian. He retired as Area Manager from Aetna Building Maintenance. John loved gardening and working in his yard. A true family man, He was happiest when surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 59 years, Juanita “Nita” Brown McDowell of Ashland; son, John Mark (Gretchen) McDowell of Ashland; daughter, Marcella “Marcie” (Scott) Oliver of Louisville; brother, Roy (Kim) McDowell of Ashland; four grandchildren, John Daniel “J.D.” (Hannah) McDowell, Hannah R. McDowell, Emily P. McDowell and Gemma L. Oliver; and a great grandson, John David Asher McDowell.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at STEEN FUNERAL HOME 13TH STREET CHAPEL with Pastor Robert Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
