John L. Tolbert, 92, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 in the Community Hospice Care Center.
He was born June 8, 1927, in Preston, Kentucky, a son of the late James W. and Alene France Tolbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anna Farrow Tolbert in 2006; brother, Jack F. Tolbert and a sister Susan L. Birchfield.
John was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired from General Telephone Company after many years of service. He was also a member of Park City Lodge #1062 Elks where he was past exalted ruler for seven years, and France Leece Post American Legion where he was past adjutant for three years. He served honorably in the Army during World War II and was stationed In Europe and South Pacific.
Survivors include his daughter, Johnann E. Barrow of Ashland; son, Alphonso J. “Tobey” Tolbert of Lexington, KY; 4 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
A military graveside service will be held at Ashland Cemetery on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 11:00 a.m.
