Joseph S. Skaggs

Joseph Santford Skaggs grew up in Ashland, KY, he was born August 3, 1946, the son of Dennie A. and Ella Mae Skaggs. Joe passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 in Russell, KY. He graduated Paul Blazer High School and Morehead State University where he met his wife, Carla Bondy. Joe taught music in the Ashland Public Schools until his retirement in 1998.  He joined the South Ashland United Methodist Church in 2003 where he directed the bell choir until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Dennie and Steve, and his life-long best friend Don Payne. He is survived by his wife of 51 years; his children Peggy (Tom) McNair and Andy (Megan) Skaggs; three grandchildren: Jack, Evan, and Matthew; his sister Margaret; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition, Joe leaves behind a large community of wonderful friends, former students, and fellow church members and music teachers.  He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the South Ashland United Methodist Church by Pastor Keith Katterheinrich. Visitation will be from 9:00am till service time at 11:00am at the church.
