Joyce Ann Fletcher

Joyce Fugitt Fletcher, 79, of Ashland, Kentucky, died peacefully Wednesday morning, August 19, 2020, at King's Daughter Medical Center.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Larry N. Fletcher.
Also surviving are five children, David (Paula) Fletcher of Ashland, Paul (Lisa) Fletcher of Ashland, Rusty (Deena) Fletcher of Pendleton, KY, Melanie (Karl) Lindsey of Argillite, Jeff (Kim) Fuller of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Jay and Dorcie Fugitt, and one brother, Jay Jr.
Joyce was born February 10, 1941 to Jay and Dorcie Fugitt in Ashland, Ky. She was a graduate of Ashland High School, and from the nursing program at John's Hopkins University. In addition to several nursing positions, Joyce retired from Ashland Community and Technical College after years of serving as a nursing instructor.
Perhaps her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Countless hours were spent in elaborate storytelling, nature walks, art projects, cooking sessions, and numerous other adventures. "Nana" always took the time to make each of her grandchildren feel loved and special.
In addition to her family, Joyce was known as "Mom" or "Momma Joyce" to many. She served at Larry's side at Unity Baptist Church as youth leaders followed by teaching young adult couples for over 20 years. She was deeply involved in mission work in Uganda and was a member of First Baptist Church Russell. Whether in mentoring youth and children, teaching women, or simply serving as a Godly example, her goal in life was to serve her Lord and help those around her do the same.
Visitation will be held from 10-1 on Saturday, August 22 at First Baptist Church Russell. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church Russell immediately following visitation at 1 and will be presided over by Pastor Ken Gowin. The burial will be at Ashland Cemetery.
