Judge Kelley Roger Asbury

Judge Kelley Roger Asbury departed this life on May 26, 2021, following a heart attack.

Judge Asbury was born on December 9, 1940 to the late Claude and Erma Adkins Asbury. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Annabelle Young Asbury, who was the mother of his daughters; _ an infant daughter, Kimberly Rae Asbury, and daughter Kathy Lynn Estepp. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Claude Johnson Asbury and Lucian Franklin Asbury.

Judge Asbury began the practice of law in Catlettsburg, Kentucky in 1963 and was appointed Judge of the Boyd Circuit Court, Division I in 1979 where he served until the year 2000. He was among the first in the Commonwealth to employ a case management system and to implement the child support guidelines in Kentucky. He enjoyed sports, square dancing and Mexican Train Dominoes.

Judge Asbury is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Bonnie Parsons Asbury, and three adoring daughters, Cheryl Black and her husband Scott; Angela Stethen and her husband, Mike; and Susan Thornton and her husband, James.

Also left to cherish his memory are six grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, five grandsons, Michael Jones and his wife Courtney, Mathew Stethen and his wife Jacklyn, Dylan Stethen, Andrew Black, J. T. Thornton, a granddaughter, Kirstin Bullard and her husband, Chris and one great granddaughter, Emberly Kate Stethen, a sister, Patricia Ann Adkins along with a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends .

A private funeral will be held on June 2, 2021 at the Rose Hill Mausoleum with interment to follow in the mausoleum.
