Justine Ratcliff Deters, 104, of Ashland, Kentucky, died January 3, 2020, at Trinity Station Retirement Community in Flatwoods, Kentucky.
She was born March 3, 1915 in Hitchins, Kentucky, the daughter of James Edward and Minnie Abrams Ratcliff.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband of 56 years, Paul H. Deters; a son, Larry E. Deters; two sisters, Geneva Kappes and Jean Robinson; and five brothers, Pete, Bill, Eddie, Bobby, and Tony Ratcliff.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Paula Jo (Will) Boles and Kate Jordan, both of Nashville, Tennessee; three great-granddaughters, Emily and Rachel Jordan, and Chloe Boles; one great-grandson, Austin Jordan; 15 nephews and nieces; and a first cousin, Jenny Noonan.
Justine was a kind and gentle soul who deeply loved God, her family, music, reading, and finding new homes to occupy. She changed residences more than 50 times because moving was a delight. She never stopped reading the real estate ads looking for that next house to make her own.
The family is indebted to her loving niece, Laura Vincent, and to caregivers Pat Baer and Joyce Gibson for their kind, respectful living assistance during her final years.
A celebration of Justine’s life will be conducted Sunday, January 19, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Winchester Ave, Ashland. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Pollack and Keith Kappes.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Justine’s memory may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Winchester Avenue, Ashland, KY, 41101; or to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 1670, Ashland, KY, 41105.
