Kerry Watson Lester, 87, passed from this life on March 9, 2019.
He was born June 13, 1931, in Glenwood, Ky, a son of the late Virgil H. and Hazel (Holbrook) Lester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Jr.; and sister, Helen Holbrook.
He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force stationed in Itazuki, Japan during the Korean Conflict. He worked for many years at Ashland Oil, as a yield analyst and a pipefitter and was a longtime member of 13th Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet (Greene) Lester; son Kolin, daughters Erin Nolte and Keri Childrey, grandchildren Kevin, Elizabeth, Amy, Emily, and Samantha, and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Karen Wiley and Hollis Wilcox.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Steen Funeral Home 13th Street Chapel with Pastor Jim Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force and American Legion Kenova Post 93.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1p.m. Tuesday.
