Lawrence Franklin Caines, Sr., 82, of Ashland, Kentucky passed away Thursday, July
28, 2022, in UK Medical Center.
He was born February 17, 1940 in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of the late Lawrence
and Willa Hines Caines. In addition to his parents a sister, Vivian Nolte, preceded
him in death.
Lawrence served honorably in the United States Navy. Following active duty he
served in the Naval and Army Reserve where he retired as First Sargent. He later
had a second career with AK Steel where he retired as a Brick Mason. Lawrence
was an active member of Rose Hill Baptist Church. He was President of Tri-State
Model Flyers and enjoyed traveling in his RV.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 60 years, Garnet Wilson
Caines of Ashland; daughters, Pamela (Mike) Wright of Greenup, KY, Melinda
(Randy) Kiser of Cummings, GA, and Kimberly (E.J.) Clayton of Russell, KY; son,
Lawrence Franklin (Brandie) Caines, Jr. of Greenup, KY; two brothers, Warner
(Diane) Caines of Frankfort, KY, and David (Libby) Caines of Lexington, KY;
grandchildren, Nicole Alexander, Kacee Alexander, Tanner Alexander, Lexie Boyd,
Randy Lee Kiser, Madison Kiser, Trey Caines, Baylee Caines and Eli Caines; 10 great
grandchildren and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at STEEN
FUNERAL HOME 13TH STREET CHAPEL followed by services to honor the life of
Lawrence Caines at Noon with words of comfort provided by Randy Skaggs and
Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, North East where military honors
will be provided by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Kenova Post 93.
