Lewis Buford Mays, 89, of Flatwoods, returned to his Heavenly Father, Sunday evening, April 10, 2022, while surrounded by his family at his residence.
He was born February 10, 1933, in South Point, Ohio, a son of the late Lewis and Bess Sexton Mays. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Jenny” Mays; sons, Devon Mays and infant son, Steven Mays; grandson, Steve Mays; son in law, Bill Dalton; step sons, David Kersey, Roger Kersey and Greg Kersey; and a sister, Judy Willis.
Lewis was a member of God’s Tabernacle Church and retired from Armco Steel following a 42 ½-year career. He previously served on the Flatwoods City Council and was a Boyd County Auxiliary Police Officer under Judge Hall. Lewis was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Those left to cherish his memory include three sons, Rick (Debbie) Mays of Ashland, Doug (Kathy) Mays of Ashland, and Jeff (Karen) Kersey of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughters, Vicky Dalton of Ashland and Belinda (Charlie) Shelton of Ashland; step daughters, Sue (Steve) Lyons of Grayson and Diana Hart of Lexington; brothers, Estell (Karen) Mays of Coalgrove, OH, Allen Mays of Coalgrove, OH, and David Mays of Burlington, OH; sister, Ruth Geraldine Allen of South Point, OH; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 at STEEN FUNERAL HOME 13th STREET CHAPEL with words of comfort provided by his son, Pastor Rick Mays. Burial will follow in Kirby Flats Cemetery.
Visitation will be from Noon until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
