Loretta Kitchen Stuart, 89, of Ashland, KY, loving wife, mother, and Nana, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.
She was born January 28, 1932, in Stockton, Ohio to the late Rev. Fred R. Kitchen and Effie Brigner Kitchen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Farley E. Stuart Jr., her sister and brother-in- law, Juanita and Bill Hatfied, brother and sister- in- law Roger and Betty Kitchen and brothers Louis Kitchen and Fred Kitchen Jr. two nieces, Karen and husband Gene French and Linda Christy. She was also preceded in death by her dear friends Chris and Billy Joe Taylor.
Those left to celebrate her life include her daughter and son in law, Ruth Ellen and Don Chaney of Ashland, son and daughter in law, Rev. Farley and Terrie Stuart of Lexington. Her grandchildren, Bryan Chaney (Kelli) of Knoxville, Jason Stuart (Elizabeth) of Lexington, Melissa McKenzie (Rhese) of Russell, Leah Enright (Dennis) of Virginia. Her great grandchildren: Emily (Zach) Alley, Seth Hall, Peyton McKenzie, Jackson, Greyson and Asher Stuart, Max Mclaughlin, Rylee and Colt Enright. Two special nieces Vicki Simpson (David) North Carolina and Sandy (Brent) Poynter of Tennessee, Susan Taylor and other family and friends who will mourn her loss.
Loretta graduated in the Class of 1949 from Thomas R. Brown High School in Catlettsburg. Until her failing health, she enjoyed meeting her classmates for lunch every month. She worked as the Office Manager at Ross Brothers Construction Company for 30 years. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Ashland where she served as Minister of Music for 30 years and served on the Worship Team. Prior to attending church at Centenary, she was the Choir Director at First United Methodist Church in Catlettsburg for 25 years. Loretta sung in a quartet called “The Joy Singers” during the late 1940’s and loved for her family to gather around the piano to sing together.
A celebration of Loretta’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Centenary United Methodist Church with words of comfort provided by Rev. John Carwell. Entombment will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at STEEN FUNERAL HOME 13TH STREET CHAPEL
