Martha Edwards

Martha Edwards, 86, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Martha was born Feb. 25, 1933 in Boyd County, one of twelve children born to the late Edgar and Nancy Moyer McClelland. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Ray W. Edwards, brothers Tom, Harold, Clyde and Don, sisters Mildred, Mary, Dorothy and Nancy.
Martha was a lifelong resident of Boyd County. She was a 1951 graduate of Ashland High School and a member of the England Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She worked in sales with the former G.C. Murphy Company and was involved in several community clubs including the Boyd County Homemakers, the Greenup County Quilt Guild, was a master seamstress and taught classes at the Boyd County Extension office. Her greatest joy was teaching Sunday school class and helping with vacation bible school.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son Steven Edwards and wife Phyllis of Wurtland, KY, brothers Curtis McClelland of Boyd County, Jack McClelland of Ashland, sister Lydia “Tootsie” Morgan of Deering, OH, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the England Hill Freewill Baptist Church by Pastor Willie May. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-9pm at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel.
