“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7)
Having fought the good fight, Mary Elizabeth Manning Keffer died peacefully at home on June 20, 2019.
Mary was born September 21, 1926 to the late Bernard and Grace (Haney) Manning. In 1947 she married Fred Davis Keffer, and they began a lifelong journey together. Together, they raised three daughters. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and their involvement in church. Throughout their years together, their love and respect for each other have been an example to all who knew them. Whatever their joys or heartaches, they faced them hand in hand while leaning on their faith in God.
Mary worked for many years as a ward clerk at King’s Daughters Hospital and, with her husband, was a former dairy farmer. Mary was a faithful and active member of the First Church of God in Ashland. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Freda Rice Circle of the Women’s Missionary Society, the Mary Mary Mary group, and a former member of the church choir. She was also awarded the honor of Kentucky Colonel.
She is survived by three daughters, Kim Keffer and Karen Keffer of Ashland, Ky. and Linda (Dale) Hannon of Ironton, Ohio.; grandsons Christopher Hannon of Ashland, KY, Lucas Hannon of Ironton, OH and Zachary Keffer of Ashland, KY, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death her sister Lillian Cassity, and her brothers Bernard Manning, Jr. and Robert Manning. A joyful reunion is now taking place in their eternal home.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 23 from 6:00 until 8:00 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 24 2019 at Steen Funeral Home on Central Avenue, Ashland. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
